Understanding Our Color Techniques

Solid

A single, uniform shade from root to end , just pure, consistent color throughout.

Mixed Blends (M)

A mostly solid base color with subtle dimension from a secondary shade woven throughout.

Blondes

Bohyme offers every level of blonde — from cool Ash Blonde (A) to classic Blonde (B) to icy Platinum Blonde (BL) — so you can find the exact tone to match.

Balayage

A hand-painted, soft-highlight technique where the top and bottom colors blend gradually into each other, creating a seamless, natural transition. Similar to Ombre, but with a softer, more diffused blend between shades.

Layered Highlights (d)

One color is layered over another to mimic the look of natural highlights,creating a blended highlight contrast effect. Because of this layering process, it's only available in machine-tied wefts.

Rooted

A natural-looking root effect, with 2–3 inches of a darker root color gradually transitioning into the main shade below.

Highlight (H)

Individual strands of both colors creates contrast and dimensions throughout the weft to mimic the look of natural highlights — achievable in hand-tied construction.

Ombre

A gradual color transition from one shade to another, darker at the root and lighter toward the ends.

Ethos Color Chart

Bohyme Ethos colors offer a distinct, more refined palette compared to standard Bohyme shades, with unique ashy and platinum tones.

How should I find the closest Bohyme® color match?

For the closest color match, compare your client’s hair with the Bohyme® Color Ring in person. The online chart is a helpful visual reference, but lighting and screen settings can affect how shades appear.

What is the difference between balayage, rooted, and ombre colors?

Balayage features soft highlights blended between the top and bottom colors for a seamless transition. Rooted shades begin with approximately two to three inches of root color before transitioning into another shade. Ombre shades transition gradually from one color to another.

What do A, B, and BL mean in Bohyme® color names?

A indicates Ash Blonde, B indicates Blonde, and BL indicates Platinum Blonde.

What is a mixed-blend color?

A mixed blend is a predominantly solid shade with dimension created by a secondary color.
