Can I swim in Bohyme® Hair Extensions?

It is a common concern with hair extensions whether if you can sit out in the sun and go swimming without causing significant damage to your hair. Good news is, swimming won’t damage the bonds of your hair extensions. Bad news is, salt and chlorine can strip color and nutrient from your hair and cause unintended color change or dry out your hair extensions.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your summer vacation in style. Like your natural hair, it is important to use necessary products and follow  guidelines to minimize damage and ensure the health and longevity of your Bohyme® hair extensions.

First, while you are in hot temps, be careful not to pull at your hair extensions. The heat could possibly weaken the bond of your extensions, such as i-tips, tape-in, or glue-in, they won’t come out by themselves, but they might fall out if your tug at them while in high temps. Make sure to brush your hair after you cool off.

If you are going to dive in the ocean or swimming pool, a swim cap is a good way to protect your hair from both water and sun. If you are not using a swim cap, make sure to wash your hair with an ultraviolet protective shampoo and conditioner before going into the water. You can also use “leave on” hair products that contain SPF for extra protection.

It is important to try not to have your hair extensions stay wet for a long period of time. We recommend no more than two hours of your hair extensions in water. Wash your hair immediately after swimming. Make sure to use ultraviolet protective or sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Make sure all of the chlorine or salt water is out of your hair. Dry and comb your hair regularly.

If you follow these tips and taker precautions to avoid damage, you wouldn’t have to worry about your extensions. Enjoy your time in summer!
