Go Green with Hair Care Products
Use hair products that are vegan, cruelty-free, non-toxic & free of parabens. With so much variety on the market, you can definitely find hair care brands and products that deliver results without hurting the environment.
Encourage your clients to keep using these same products at home, too.
Look for products that come in biodegradable, recyclable and/or reusable packaging.
For Fresh Air: Forget Formaldehyde
Offer formaldehyde-free keratin treatments and make sure they're truly formaldehyde-free. Some treatments are technically formaldehyde-free, but contain other chemicals that when heated break down into formaldehyde, sending harmful fumes into the air.
Formaldehyde substitutes to stay away from: Glyoxylic acid, Glyoxyloyl Carbocysteine (Oxoacetamide carbocysteine) & Phenyl Trimethicone
Sustainability in Your Hands
Use brushes and combs made from sustainable materials, like bamboo.
Eco-friendly heat tools typically consume less energy (a lot less if they use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery), are made with less plastic & toxins, emit less radiation and actually take less time to complete the job.
Dye Hair Responsibly
Choose ammonia-free hair dye.
Ammonia is bad for scalps and bad for the environment when it's washed down the drain and enters nearby water sources.
Stay away from these just-as-harmful ammonia substitutes: Ethanolamine (also called monoethanolamine), Cocamide MEA & Aminomethyl propanol (AMEA).
Instead, look for dyes that are henna, vegetable/fruit or oil-based.
Hair extension manufacturing can be harsh on the environment. Thousands of gallons of water are wasted in the hair creation process. It’s important to choose a hair extension company that works to decrease their impact on the environment.
