the happiest career choice

Jess always wanted to be a stylist, but instead took a path that led to a corporate career. After a while, she was unfulfilled because she didn't feel her job really made a difference in the lives of others. "When it was time to pick a new career, I figured what better than to pick the one thing that made me happiest?! Because I was 30 and had a child, I knew I couldn't play around trying to decide what my next path would be so it only made sense to do something that
I had thought about since I was a little girl, cutting my Barbie's hair. Fortunately, I was able to quit my job and go to beauty school full time at Paul Mitchell the School and finish in just over a year. A couple years later, I was introduced to Shaylie George-Green and took one of her first The Foundation Method classes. Since then, Shaylie and extensions have totally changed my hair business for the better. I now work as a stylist in a salon where I rent my booth and love my coworkers, and am the only stylist specializing in hair extensions."

"I really get a kick out of when people can't tell if my pictures are of a client with extensions or just their natural hair."- Jess K.

no such thing as "just a stylist"

With experience in the corporate world and the hair industry, Jess is a champion for stylists and strives to make sure they get the respect and appreciation they deserve. "I am inspired by strong, independent women. I strive to be one. I want to show my children that no matter what your passion is, you can make it a success for yourself. It has been my goal for a while now to get rid of the "he's/she's JUST a hairstylist" mentality. It takes intelligence, patience, creativity and passion to do this job and I want the world to see that."

so many favorite things

A busy day is a great day filled with a variety of clients, conversations, styling perspectives and skills, at least according to Jess. "I thrive on the hustle and bustle of a busy day at the salon. I love the conversation that my clients bring. On a bigger scale, I love the creative freedom I have as a stylist. I enjoy the fact that there are multiple ways to achieve a specific look. And my most favorite part of being a hairstylist is impacting a client's day. I finally feel like I am making a difference in the world, even if it is just for one person and one day at a time."
